Like every other self-respecting Habs fan, I am excited about this most unusual 2021 National Hockey League season and it’s hard to argue with the common wisdom that this is the best lineup of the Bergevin era. But what many are wondering is why it took the Canadiens’ general manager so long to finally take a stand and make some smart, serious moves.
He did it because his job is on the line. Really. For years, many have wondered aloud why owner Geoff Molson felt he had to give his GM that lengthy contract extension in November 2015. Bergevin, who had been managing the good ship CH since spring 2012, was re-signed in 2015 through the end of the 2021-22 season."
