Max Domi, Montreal

"Domi’s first season with the Canadiens was stellar: 28 goals, 44 assists, 72 points … all career highs.

Now, after taking a step backward this season (17-27-44), the buzz in Montreal is that Domi will be very much available. The Canadiens see him as a winger, but Domi wants to play center, and the Canadiens believe they are deep enough down the spine.

Domi is only 25 years old. He’s a restricted free agent with arbitration rights who’s due a big raise off his $3.15 million salary the past two seasons.

As his next deal will include multiple UFA years, expect the salary-cap hit of his new contract to go up sharply, which could make teams wary given his inconsistent scoring.

The Blue Jackets could surely use Domi’s offensive punch among their top six. With his competitive fire, he’d fit right in, too."
